Interlude Tours: Luxury Travel to the Reno Air Races from Indianapolis

Could this be the ultimate Reno vacation? Interlude Tours has packed 5 days and 4 nights with Action, History, and Adventure!–giving you the very best of Reno, Nevada, September 16-20, 2009. Despite the high fun quotient of this guaranteed departure tour (which can never be canceled due to a lack of participation), it also has an astronomically high relaxation quotient as well, since we do all the driving, pamper you, and take care of all the details for 0% fuss, 100% vacation!

Two days of this amazing tour are dedicated to the Reno Air Races, also known as the National Championship Air Races & Air Show, which have thrilled spectators from around the globe since 1964. According to the official website,

Race aircraft in the Unlimited Class reach speeds of over 500 mph – by far the fastest-moving machines in motorsports! The event also includes a world-class air show featuring the US Navy “Blue Angels” flying the F-18 Hornet. Air show performers for 2009 include David Martin, the Red Eagles, the Smoke and Thunder jet car, and Patty Wagstaff, plus military and civil flight demonstrations, and on exhibit will be a large display of static aircraft.

In addition to enjoying all of the flying, you can visit the pits and watch race teams work on their aircraft, browse the vendors for aviation-related and other merchandise, and enjoy a wide variety of food and beverages and other amenities during your visit.

The way Interlude pampers you will be apparent from how we describe these 2 full days in the itinerary:

A breakfast voucher is included each day of your stay. Daily shuttle tickets are included for transfer to the Air Race venue at your leisure. General admission seating and one official race program per room are included. Travel to/from the Races at your discretion, spending as long as you like enjoying the thrilling events of the day. Pit passes can be included as an option at an additional cost of $105 per person.

We’ve taken care of all the details of attending the Reno Air Races, so when you’ve had your fill of action, you are free to hop on the shuttle and enjoy casinos, shows, or whatever you desire!

Yet there is so much more to this vacation! You’ll also visit Carson City, the capital of Nevada, and Virginia City, the historic mining town–all with our guides regaling you with the lore and history of these amazing places. Please contact us today to make your reservations, as spots on this tour are limited. We welcome reservations from Indianapolis, where we are based, or any location in the United States and Canada!

Client Experience: Wine, Rail, & Redwoods

June 29, 2009

Recently I wrote a blog post about Wine, Rail, and Redwoods, and here is the itinerary for this amazing guaranteed departure tour, which is scheduled for September 20-25, 2009.

Our clients Dick and Donna Clifton took this tour last year. Says Donna,

Dick and I took this tour in 2008, and what an enjoyable time we had. First class service from being picked up at our door clear through the entire trip to being delivered back to our front door.

The tour leader was so congenial — very knowledgeable, and talk about energy!  If you are wine buffs and also just enjoy great scenery and good companionship, do take this tour.  You will meet interesting people not only from Indy but a number of other states.

As  usual, Interlude Tours did a great job in choosing this particular trip.  Thank you.

Dick and Donna Clifton

Thank you, too, Donna! It’s great people like you and your husband that make our tours so enjoyable for everyone.

If you would like to contribute your own Interlude Tours experiences and photos, please email us at blog@interludetours.com.

My Experience of the New Indianapolis International Airport (Jo Ann Carr, President, Interlude Tours)

June 28, 2009
Indianapolis International Airport Website: www.indianapolisairport.com

Indianapolis International Airport Website: www.indianapolisairport.com

Recently, I had the pleasure of departing from the brand-new Indianapolis International Airport, which opened in fall 2008. Designed and constructed after 9/11, the airport has an exceptionally user-friendly design.

Thanks to Interlude’s home pick-up service, I was dropped at the curb just outside the impressive ticket hall. At the old airport our limo service had to drop guests across the bridge due to security policy. This huge area had been intimidating had I not been greeted by one of the cordial airport staff, who directed me to the appropriate check-in counter.

Since I’d already checked-in online the day prior, I already had my boarding pass, so it was easy to check-in at the e-ticket kiosk and deposit my bag. With the new efficient automated luggage sorting system, I felt comfortable checking in 75-90 minutes early, instead of the old airport requirement of 2 hours. But I do caution you to be sure to check in your luggage at least 60 minutes prior to departure to minimize the chance of misrouting.

From check-in, I entered the Civic Plaza, a spacious domed area where I was again offered directions by one of the airport greeters. I found many choices for a quick breakfast before my flight. I chose locally owned Café Patachou, one of my favorites!

I was anxious to find out how much hassle it would be to go through security, but the new design worked very efficiently. There are three checkpoint lanes: green for families or slower passengers; blue for casual travelers at the intermediate level, who travel 1-3 times per year; and black for experienced travelers who know the rules and arrive at the checkpoint ready to go through efficiently. Again, I was pleased by the friendliness and professionalism of the security screening staff.

Traveling to my concourse for departure, I used moving walkways that significantly cut down on walking, and I found plenty of options for food and beverages. From an efficiency standpoint, my experience was definitely hassle-free as well as esthetically pleasing, since the airport was designed with lots of natural light and artwork throughout, from glass murals and terrazzo floor designs to sculptures.

I am very happy with the new airport and feel that anyone using it on one of our tours will have a great experience!

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater: Luxury Travel from Indianapolis

June 25, 2009
Interlude Tours: Luxury Travel from Indianapolis to Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright

Interlude Tours: Luxury Travel from Indianapolis to Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright (Exterior)

Everyone has always wanted to see the amazing architecture of Fallingwater, but few get the chance. How many of us, after all, consider Pittsburgh for a vacation? Yet Fommer’s picked Pittsburgh as a top destination for 2008, and we think you’ll find it just as fabulous September 28 – October 1, 2009, on our special tour!

On day two of your full but relaxing itinerary, you’ll be visiting the Laurel Highlands, including Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob (another house by Frank Lloyd Wright), and more! And that’s just one of the four days of this tour! There is certainly a lot to see and do, but please leave all the driving to us: this is an all-luxury motor coach “escorted vacation” (no flying!), and we pamper you and take care of you at all times, so you enjoy 0% fuss, 100% vacation!

According to the official Fallingwater website,

Fallingwater is the name of a very special house that is built over a waterfall. Frank Lloyd Wright, America’s most famous architect, designed the house for his clients, the Kaufmann family. Fallingwater was built between 1936 and 1939. It instantly became famous, and today it is a National Historic Landmark.

The Wikipedia article also has much interesting information:

Fallingwater stands as one of Wright’s greatest masterpieces both for its dynamism and for its integration with the striking natural surroundings. The extent of Wright’s genius in integrating every detail of this design can only be hinted at in photographs. The fireplace hearth in the living room is composed of boulders found on the site and upon which the house was built — one set of boulders which was left in place protrudes slightly through the living room floor. Although the waterfall can be heard throughout the house, it can’t be seen without going outside. The experiential climax of visiting the house is an interior staircase leading down from the living room allowing direct access to the rushing stream beneath the house.

South Dakota Adventures: Luxury Travel from Indianapolis

June 20, 2009
Jo Ann Carr with Travel Alliance Partners at the Crazy Horse Memorial

Jo Ann Carr with Travel Alliance Partners at the Crazy Horse Memorial

Our tours offer a true “interlude” from your everyday life that refreshes and reinvigorates you! For this reason, even if you have a busy schedule, an Interlude tour is an investment that pays big dividends in happiness and productivity!

Recently, Interlude President Jo Ann Carr traveled to South Dakota and provided the photo above and the following story:

Recently I traveled to the Black Hills of South Dakota to see several of our monumental landmarks. We were able to take in Mount Rushmore both during the day and for their impressive and patriotic evening lighting ceremony.

We also got special treatment at the Crazy Horse Memorial. We were taken by van to the top of this sculpture in progress – that’s our group standing on the outstretched arm of Crazy Horse. You can see just how monstrous this sculpture is!

Then we rode among the buffalo by jeep at the Custer State Park! What an experience. Dinner, of course, was buffalo, now one of my favorite entrees.

We are all familiar with Mt. Rushmore from photographs, but it’s one of those things that everyone raves about after seeing in person–photos really can’t do it justice!

We have a guaranteed departure tour (i.e., it will never be canceled due to a lack of participation) that includes Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial scheduled for July 11-18, and its itinerary is amazing. Day two is when you will experience these two great monuments, but you will also visit Custer State Park, Badlands National Park, the Akta Lakota Museum, Fort Mandan, Knife River Indian Villages, the Black Hills, and more. For anyone with an interest in Native American culture, this trip is an absolute must!

Since this is an escorted vacation, we will be doing all the driving, pampering you and ensuring your comfort and enjoyment at every stage–0% fuss, 100% vacation!

Spots remaining on this trip are limited, as is time to plan, so please call us today and we will have everything taken care of for you in a matter of moments! We welcome reservations from Indianapolis, where we are based, as well as from any location in the United States or Canada.

Note: Your experience at the Crazy Horse Memorial may differ somewhat from the one described above, as this was a special tour for the Travel Alliance Partners–but it will nonetheless be spectacular!

Luxury Railroad Tour in California: Escorted Vacation from Indianapolis

June 18, 2009
Interlude Tours: Luxury Rail Travel in California

Interlude Tours: Luxury Rail Travel in California

In my last post, I talked about our amazing TAP guaranteed departure vacation for October 4-10, 2009, Majestic Sierra Parks, which includes three incredible national parks in California (Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park), as well as a luxury escorted railroad tour.

Let’s take a closer look at this very exciting tour within a tour!

On the morning of day two in your event- and destination-packed itinerary, you’ll board our private “Silver Lariot” dome rail car and ride north along the scenic California coast and through the interior farmlands to Monterey–a journey of over 300 miles of pure beauty, luxury, and relaxation! En route, you’ll enjoy a gourmet brunch and dinner, prepared by our own chef and served on white linen, as well some superb wine and cocktails. You’ll arrive in the early evening and stay at the lovely Monterey Bay Embassy Suites Hotel for two nights as you continue your adventure.

The picture you see here is the very definition of “escorted vacation by Interlude.” This is a special refurbished rail car not available to the general public–strictly for VIPs! Moreover, these are not strangers conversing with you, sipping fine wine with you–rather, they are your friends and companions throughout your vacation, creating lasting memories with you. Many of our clients enjoy the people they meet with us so much that they continue to take our tours together, year after year. No ordinary vacation can offer such camaraderie.

The rail tour alone will make this a vacation you’ll never forget, and yet there is so much more! To arrange air travel and reserve your spots, please call us today (we welcome reservations from Indianapolis, where we are based, or any location in the United States).

Escorted Vacations Indianapolis: Yosemite National Park

June 16, 2009
Interlude Tours: Majestic Sierra Parks

The Majestic Sierra Parks 2008 tour by Interlude Tours. The crisp mountain air was truly invigorating.

We have an amazing tour coming up June and October: Majestic Sierra Parks, whose itinerary includes not just one or two but three incredible national parks! The photo above is from last year’s tour, and our clients simply raved about it!

This TAP escorted vacation is a “guaranteed departure”: the trip will never be canceled because of a lack of participation. If you’ve ever wanted to see some of the most beautiful places in California, this is your tour! “Escorted” means that we’ll be handling all of your transportation by rail and by coach. Of course, we arrange for all of your accommodations and most of your major meals, too, so it’s no fuss, no fatigue–just 100% vacation!

Yosemite National Park is truly a place everyone needs to visit. According to the official government website,

Not just a great Valley…

but a shrine to human foresight, strength of granite, power of glaciers, the persistence of life, and the tranquility of the High Sierra.

Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.

As amazing as that sounds, you have to experience it to believe it! And experience it you shall, since day five of your California journey is all Yosemite! At the park, we will be your guide, making sure you take in all the best the park has to offer in October.

To arrange air travel and reserve your spots on this trip of a lifetime, please call us today (we welcome reservations from Indianapolis, where we are based, or any location in the United States!).
