Thrilling rail travel is alive and well in these United States, and we have more than a few tours that offer this invigorating experience. The American Panorama tour gives you quite a taste of the old-fashioned rail experience: you’ll travel on the venerable California Zephyr (going both west and east) and also experience the Boone & Scenic Valley Railway. Concerning the California Zephyr, Wikipedia says,
The California Zephyr is a 2,438-mile-long passenger train route operated by Amtrak in the Midwestern and Western United States. It runs from Chicago, Illinois, in the east to Emeryville, California, in the west, passing through the states of Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California. This route is one of the longest and most scenic routes run by Amtrak, with views of both the upper Colorado River valley in the Rocky Mountains, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
On this tour, you will travel on the Zephyr from Chicago, Illinois, to Osceola, Iowa. Here the landscape is a vision of vast, rolling plains–true American panoramic grandeur!
